I LOVE the 4th of July. It’s second on the list of my favorite holidays, just behind Christmas. This year, however, managed to top all the rest. P.S…not too hard to do, considering last year I broke my ankle during the fireworks!
Coming back from Summerfest, my family and I spent the holiday out in Munising at our friends’, the Beckman’s, camp. It’s overlooking the lake, and we took up our morning catching up and fishing. It was so perfect!
Our day was SUPER full. Parade watching, eating sliders, and spending time together. If you’ve ever been to the Munising 4th of July, then you know. They have carnival games, food, and…chicken poop bingo. Nothing screams more Upper Peninsula, but it’s always the best.
They also have their own version of the Price is Right, and I got called up on the last round. I guessed closest to the number, and ended up having the chance to win $400 playing Plinko! I had 4 chances, and ended hitting either $0 or $2 every time…haha. But I got $4 I didn’t have before!
The Beckman/Nebel family was kind enough to invite us along on all of their traditions. On our way back from town, we made a small hike to a gorgeous waterfall off the side of the highway. That’s what I love about the U.P. – you can find some amazing views literally anywhere! After, we stopped at one of their seriously gorgeous houses, ate dinner on the lake, and sang Christmas Carols while using their old Christmas tree as our bonfire fuel. I tried taking some photos of the view, but I only had my iPhone, and the camera couldn’t do it justice!
Of course, we had to end the night watching fireworks. There’s nothing better than going to sleep after a full, sunny day!
I spent my holiday with my family, friends, and great food. I was unplugged for the first time in a while, and turns out, I didn’t really miss much – instead, I was a part of one of my favorite days this summer, so far. How did you spend your holiday?
