How I Became a Morning Person: Tips

A year ago, if you’d have asked me if I liked getting up early, it would have been an unquestionable “no.” Every day before school, my dad would have to come in my room and physically stand me up from my bed. 20 minutes later, he would come back in and find me asleep again…Sorry dad! 40 minutes later, I would still be shuffling into the the halls of my high school with sleepy eyes and daydreams of my pillows at home.

Now, even on the weekends, I honestly love being up by 8:00-8:30. Everyone’s different, but for me, I am most productive in the morning. Getting up early works best for me- by 10:00, I can say I’ve already showered and checked off two hours worth of things on my to-do list. Especially being in college and being constantly surrounded by people, getting a couple of hours without distractions and the fear I might be missing out on something fun is something I really like having.

There are SO many benefits to waking up and getting your day started early. If you’re looking for some tips on how to become a morning person, or just how to make your mornings a bit easier, keep on reading!

Set Your Alarm For the Same Time Every Day

This is a little trick that I came across on accident. This year, all my classes have been scheduled for basically the same time- 8:30. At first I was dreading it, but after a couple weeks of getting up at the same time every single day, I started to notice that even on the weekends my body was waking itself up early. Now, I don’t even mind!

I still set my alarm as a backup, but training your internal body clock to go to bed and wake up around the same time allows yourself to wake up early and naturally.

Do Something For Yourself

It’s a lot easier to get up in the morning when you have something to look forward to. Even if it’s just a good cup of coffee, or buying the ingredients for your favorite breakfast, you’ll be a lot more eager to get out of bed in the morning. For me, I actually just love a huge glass of cold water. I fill up a water bottle the night before and stick it in the fridge, that way it will be waiting for me once I hop out of bed.

Open Your Blinds

I find it so much simpler to get out of bed when I’m not waking up to a dark room. If I open my eyes and see light coming through the windows, I feel like the day is already starting, and I need to get up and go be a part of it. Some people hate the light streaming through, so this one is really just a personal preference.

Be Prepared

I’ve mentioned this before in other posts, but I’m such a huge advocate for being ready the night before! It’s never fun to be rushing around in the morning and shoving things into your bag with one hand while you’ve got a bagel in the other. If you start your morning off right it really helps set the tone for the rest of the day.

If you’ve been wanting to work on waking up earlier, or are having trouble being productive at night, definitely try out some of these tips! They take a little bit of time to get used to, but I’ve noticed a huge change in my life.

Hope this helped!
