Mackinac Island Exploring: Pt. 1

When I used to live in downstate Michigan (i.e., the Lower Peninsula. I was still at the very tip top!), my family and I were lucky enough to rent a home on Mackinac Island for two summers! It was seriously magical. Even though the island is still part of Michigan, it feels like a whole different world. I still consider those summers as some of my best, and every opportunity I have to come back, I jump on it!

When I got a message asking If I was available to shoot on the island this past weekend, I didn’t hesitate. I love traveling for photoshoots, and it was an excuse to take a couple days with Brady and go exploring. (Plus, it was an added bonus that the McMahon’s are some of my favorite clients! πŸ™‚ )

Brady and I were only there for a little over 24 hours, but we made the most of it! I took lots of photos and videos of our adventures- hopefully this will give you some ideas on what to do when you visit!

Our first day there, the sky was a bit overcast. However, any of my photographer friends know that makes for ease of pictures!

For my photoshoot Monday morning, the plan was to get some photos at their hotel. They were staying at The Inn at Stonecliffe, where, surprisingly, I’ve never been! We took it as an opportunity to go exploring on the other side of the island.

The lawn at the Inn is huge, and has a great view of the bridge! My camera couldn’t do it justice. πŸ™

Behind the Inn, there were some awesome little trails. We took all of them, and found Sunset Peak. (A.K.A. Lover’s Leap) When you look down at the water, you can see rocks in the formation of hearts and spelling out “Marry Me?” Go here if you have the chance!

The rest of the day, we spent hiking, shopping, and eating our way up to Arch Rock. Brady loves it there, so we had to visit! The trail behind leads to Sugarloaf, so we took some time to explore and climb over there as well.

On Monday, I had the photoshoot! We had the best time taking photos, walking by the Grand Hotel, and ending in Marquette Park. If you want to see some of the pictures we took, head over to my Facebook page!

Afterwards, Brady and I met up again, and we had a picnic in the park. From there, we decided to bike around the island. I used to do this all the time when we lived there, so it was great to get to do so again. I didn’t have my camera for this part, but I did take some video on my phone, and I’ll be posting it tomorrow. We drank out of the spring, and took a few hiking detours. My friends Morgan and Cam were also on the island, so we got to see them for a bit!

Having a couple days off felt SO nice. On our way back, we stopped to take a couple little detours! There were some beaches along the highway that we always talk about stopping at, so this time we did. We also stopped near the Autrain and got a couple photos!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s video, and feel free to subscribe below for notifications of new posts! I’ll actually be headed back to the island for a part of Father’s Day weekend coming up, and I’m sure I’ll be snapping lots of photos then as well. πŸ™‚
