Midterm week = not fun. I felt like I couldn’t do anything because I had to be constantly studying! Kristen and I had been planning on hanging out after midterm week for so long, and so when we finally did…it was MUCH needed.
We left with two missions:
- Find a hiking trail. Living in the U.P., I was desperately in need of some fresh air and trees. I love it down here, but it is definitely lacking in some of the beauty you can find up there.
- Locate a cute coffee shop. Self-explanatory.
Kristen remembered seeing a sign for a hiking trail/nature area when she was walking one day, so we left after class to find it. When we finally did, we were so excited!
Red Cedar Natural Area
The hike wasn’t necessarily grueling by any means, but whenever Kristen and I get together, we cannot stop laughing. Good company always makes a situation that much better. We found some adorable little spots.
This lake was hidden off to the side a bit, but it was so pretty! We were the only two over there, so everything was quiet except for the noises we were making. The water was so still it looked like glass, and everything was reflecting so beautifully.
We found a stream, the perfect climbing tree, and this charming little fort someone made! Check them out, and more photos from our hike, below!
Afterwards, we were a bit cold, so we decided it was a good time to head out to find a coffee shop. We biked over to the Grand River area of Lansing, but we couldn’t find anything of interest over there. We ended up walking about a mile to this little place known as the Red Cedar Cafe. Since I’m actually not a coffee drinker, I ended up ordering a pumpkin muffin and a hot chocolate.
It was so good! We spent at least an hour there laughing and reminiscing and just having fun. It was such a great way to wind down from a stressful week. Kristen actually made a blog post on the day as well, and you can check it out here! (She’s a beautiful writer.)
